Halloween in the Southern Black Hills is a scary time!  Check out these local events to get into the spooktacular spirit!

Fossil Fright Night
The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD Inc. will be having a Fossil Fright Night on October 25 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Guests will experience The Mammoth Site in a new way. Flashlight Bonebed Tours, Scary Stations in the Bonebed, the Ice Age Exhibit Hall will feature candy and learning stations with a miniature golf station in the Sharon McLain Classroom.

Admission will be three cans of non-perishable food items per person or $3.52 per person. Halloween costumes are encouraged. This event will provide a safe, fun and learning environment for children and people of all ages.

Hill City Main Street Trick-or-Treat and Halloween Carnival
Head to downtown Hill City on Friday, October 26 from 3:30-5:00pm for their Main Street Trick-or-Treat.  You will get candy, treats, and other fun safe giveaways.  After stopping at the businesses, plan to attend the Halloween Carnival at the Boys & Girls Club from 4:00-6:00pm.

Halloween Night Hike at Custer State Park
On October 26 and 27, take a 1.5-mile guided hike along a paved trail and meet costumed characters that portray natural history about various plants, animals or people living in the Black Hills. Each hike will start at the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center and travel to the Game Lodge Campground where characters are staged at various campsites to act out humorous skits. Hikes depart every 15 minutes starting at 5:30 p.m. MT with the last hike departing at 8 p.m. each night.

Each hike will be led by a guide and lasts approximately one hour. The event is suitable for families with young children and is educational without the spookiness of Halloween. With the trail lit only by jack-o-lanterns and tiki torches, hikers will enjoy the sights, sounds and nightlife of Custer State Park.

Haunting of Keystone
Visit the School from Hell at the Keystone Schoolhouse Museum, Wicket Little Miners and the Haunted Forest at Big Thunder Gold Mine, and Contagion at Rushmore Cave from October 26-28.  $10 per attraction or $30 for an all-access wristband.

Custer Merchants' Trick-or-Treat
On Wednesday October 31 join us in downtown Custer for the Merchant’s Trick-or-Treat from 4-6pm.  Start at Western Skies Real Estate to get a bag for treats and a list of participating businesses.  Expect to visit 30-50 businesses…that’s a lot of candy!
