Custer State Park Guided Trail Challenge Experience: Needles Highway

Sylvan Lake Day Use Area

Take on the challenge of Custer State Park’s Winter Trail Challenge and get outdoors with a park naturalist! Join us for a guided hike along one of the featured challenge trails as we explore the Needles Highway in the winter.

This guided hike is an approximately 3-mile, out-and-back trek with moderate difficulty, offering a great opportunity to enjoy winter scenery, fresh air, and a quieter side of the park while checking a trail off your challenge list. The hike will be led by a Custer State Park Naturalist, who will serve as your guide along the trail.

Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and prepare for changing weather.

There is no fee to participate, but a park entrance license is required. Licenses may be purchased at the Park Office (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) or at the Visitor Center, open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For more information, please call 605-394-2693 or email us at custerstatepark@state.sd.us
