Emily's bio below....

Emily Jo Newcomb
Citizen Scientist
I am Emily, and I live in Laramie, WY but my hometown is Aberdeen, SD. Like many South
Dakotans, I long believed South Dakota was "flat and brown." Through exploring
public lands of remnant and restored prairies, I've learned to recognize details in the
spectrum of ecosystems that compose the Northern Great Plains. For five years, I've
traveled to natural areas in the region to identify native plant species and learn their
modern and ethnobotanical uses, as well as the obstacles they face in an altered and
ever-changing landscape. In the most recent two years, I've used these experiences to
participate as a volunteer educator for youth, landowners, and enthusiasts. I have been
onsite and helped to coordinate native plant restoration activities. I am happy to share
what I've learned, inspire conversation, and always learn something new.
