Day One: Black Elk Peak Adventure
🌅 Morning: Sylvan Lake Stroll
Begin your day at picturesque Sylvan Lake. Take a peaceful 1-hour stroll along the shoreline trail. Want more adventure? Rent a kayak, try paddleboarding, or even rock climbing! Be sure to save your energy for the big hike ahead.
🥾 Mid-Morning to Afternoon: Black Elk Peak

- Distance: 7.6 miles (Out & Back)
- Elevation Gain: 1,000–2,000 ft
- Hike Time: 4–6 hours

🗻 This is the crown jewel hike of the Black Hills! At 7,242 feet, it’s the highest point east of the Rockies. The climb is steady and rewarding with panoramic views from the summit—on a clear day, you might even spot Mount Rushmore! Bring plenty of water, snacks, and your camera!
🍦 Late Afternoon/Evening:
Reward yourself with a treat from the Sylvan Lake gift shop or ice cream in downtown Custer. Grab a hearty dinner—you’ll have earned it!

Day Two: Lovers Leap + Wildlife Loop
🦬 Morning: Custer State Park Wildlife Loop
Start the day with a drive through the Wildlife Loop. Keep your camera ready—you might spot bison, elk, prairie dogs, or even the famous “Beggin’ Burros”!

- Distance: 4.2 mile loop
- Elevation Gain: 626 ft
- Hike Time: 2–3 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate

Enjoy diverse terrain, forested paths, and sweeping overlooks of Custer State Park. The initial climb is steep, but don’t be discouraged—it levels out quickly. Watch for mountain goats and snakes along the way.

Day Three: Sunday Gulch & Scenic Drive

Kick off with a short but steep hike to the Custer “Big Rock” Sign.

- Length: ~1 mile round trip
- Difficulty: Moderate
Enjoy your breakfast with a view—there’s a picnic table at the summit for the perfect morning start.

- Trail: Sunday Gulch (access via Sylvan Lake Dam)
- Distance: 3.9 mile loop

- Hike Time: 2–3 hours

Rock scrambles, boulders, and stream crossings make this trail an adventurous challenge. Wear sturdy shoes and prepare for wet sections!
