Black Hills Electric Cooperative is a member-owned, member-controlled, not-for-profit electric utility that has been headquartered in Custer for 75 years. The co-op serves 8,000 member/owners over 5,000 square miles in six southwestern South Dakota counties and employs 27 people. Its governing board is made up of seven member/owners.
