Member Spotlight - Skogen

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Skogen — a dining experience that has become a true gem in our community!

About 10 years ago, the owners made the move from Southern California to Custer, and in May of 2017 they opened Skogen. In the early days, the restaurant served both breakfast and dinner, but after COVID they shifted their focus to dinner service only — allowing them to continue refining the unique experience so many locals and visitors love today.

Each year, the team takes time to travel, explore new restaurants, and gather inspiration from around the country. They bring those ideas back to Custer, helping Skogen continue to grow, evolve, and offer something truly special in the Black Hills.

Their love for this community runs deep. In fact, many family members have followed them to Custer over the years. Nearly four years ago, their sister and brother-in-law opened Hjem, adding another incredible dining option and making the family’s connection to Custer even stronger.

They shared that they feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a supportive and welcoming town, and they are grateful to call Custer home.
